My Christmas tree / A karácsonyfám

I feel really lucky. My Christmas tree is the same one as last year! And it’s not a plastic tree. How is that possible?

Igen szerencsésnek érzem magam. A karácsonyfám ugyanaz, mint tavaly volt. És nem műfáról van szó. Hogy lehet ez?

You guessed. It’s one of those pines in a pot. :)

Szerintem jól tippeltél. Ez egy cserepes fenyő. :)

It was waiting in the garden patiently, growing stronger day by day.

Türelmesen várt a kertben, nap mint nap erősödött.

It’s not really been decorated yet, my Mum just brought it in today. It must have been heavy, heavier than last year, as we re-planted it into a bigger pot in August.

Még nem díszitettük fel, az anyukám ma hozta be. Elég nehéz lehetett, nehezebb, mint tavaly. Nagyobb cserépbe is tettük augusztusban.

I must add, the summer wasn’t nice in terms of weather. It’s not a problem for a pine tree, I know, but most of it was cloudy and rainy.

Hozzátenném, nem volt valami jó nyarunk. Ez nem gond egy fenyőnek, tudom, de felhős és esős volt az időjárás.

I think it’s a good idea to buy such a tree. Even if, unfortunately not all of them survive being in a pot for so long. It’s cost-effective (this year, we didn’t have to buy a new one), and obviously a little bit more environmentally friendly.

Szerintem jó ötlet ilyen fát venni. Még akkor is, ha sajnos nem mind élik túl a cserépben. Spórolunk is vele és környezetbarátabb is, ha nem is sokkal.

Of course, I’m fine with traditional, cut trees, which is what I had most of my childhood. Their smell is incredibly nice! This tree doesn’t have that feel. But hopefully, it’ll be here for us next year again.

Természetesen okénak tartom a tradicionális, kivágott fákat, amilyenek a gyerekkoromban voltak otthon. Az illatuk gyönyörű volt! Ez a fa nem illatos. De remélhetőleg jövőre is itt lesz nekünk.

Meg kéne próbálni megmenteni a világot

Igen, a világ veszélyben van. Legalábbis a Föld. És jelenleg ez az a bolygó, amin élnünk kell, mert az emberiségnek nincs még másik bolygója, amin létezhet.

Mit tehetünk?

Őszintén szólva, vizet prédikálok… persze, hogy én is szennyezem ezt a bolygót. Meleg a házam, telefonozok, ami energiát használ, időnként a laptopomat is bekapcsolom, van egy családi autónk és gyakran buszozok és repülőzök.

Amikor ezek a dolgok készültek, még több energiát használtak.

Tehát mit tudok tenni? Nem sokat egyénileg. Persze, hogy föl fogom melegíteni a házamat! És nem, még mindig nincs rajta napelem. Szeretném, de ráadásul bérelt ház. Tehát én egyedül mit tudok tenni?

Igazán nem sokat.

Még hogy milyen kormányt szeretnék, az se számít.

Sajnos hiszek abban, amit Gréta Thunberg mond. Nagyon kevés időnk van, hogy megállítsuk a Föld pusztulását.

Tehát úgy döntöttem, újra blogozok. Talán ez segít.

Hiszek egy egyesített Földben. Azt gondolom, együtt meg tudjuk állítani a katasztrófát. Te elhiszed?

Nem elég az EU. Az egész világ össze kell, hogy fogjon. Az EU jó lett volna, de úgy tűnik, nem mindenkinek kell.

Tehát mit tudunk csinálni?

Csak éljünk békében ezen a bolygón legalább! Ez jó lesz kezdetnek.

2. rész

Aggódom ezért a bolygóért - de nincs hatalmam

Nem vagyok túl gazdag. Így nem tudok elektromos autót venni a háztartásomnak, vagy napelemeket a házamra, vagy nulla széndioxid kibocsátású hajóval, aztán hosszú vonatúton utazni amikor Angliából a magyar családommal szeretnék találkozni.

Szerencsére vannak olcsó repülők, amik haza visznek, így nem maradok le.

Egy ilyen repülőn több, mint száz ember utazik, így, ha a szennyezést elosztjuk az utasok számával, már nem olyan vészes.

Biztos sokan élnek még így.

Van pár csodás lehetőség mostanában, hogy utazhatunk, olvashatunk (persze ketyeréken olvasni környezetvédőbb, mint igazi papíron, de én még veszek nyomtatott könyveket), tanulhatunk, információt szerezhetünk, navigálhatunk.

Bár lehetnének a legkörnyezetvédőbb dolgok a legolcsóbbak is!

De nem, ezek általában drágábbak: az organikus ételek, elektromos szerkezetek, autók, házak, amik hatékonyabban használják az energiát. Egyedül a könyvek másak: az elektromos könyvek olcsóbbak.

És persze az új házak építése is áldozatokat követel, különösen Brazíliában és Indiában, ahol erdőket égetnek az új házakért - de ne feledjük, más országokban régebben eltűntek ezek az erdők, ezért nem vesszük például Európában észre.

Kell nekünk a föld az étel termeléshez, de tudom, hogy még ez sem elég természetes bizonyos állatfajok fennmaradásához.

Sokszor úgy érzem, az egészségesebb ételek a környezetnek is jobbak.

De én szeretem a húst, csokoládét, kávét.

Ha nem azt eszem, amit szeretek, akkor hogyan élvezzem az életemet?

Csak nyilvánosan írva gondolkodok, hogy mi lenne ennek a bolygónak a legjobb.

Egy barátom mondta: ha minden rovar meghal, végünk van. De ha az emberiség hal ki, az jó a környezetnek és a többi fajnak.

Mit tehetnénk, hogy hasznosak és ne károsak legyünk?

I’m worried for this planet - but I’m powerless

I’m not a rich girl. I can’t afford an electric car for my household, or solar panels on my house, or a zero-carbon boat and long hours of train journey if I want to visit my family from England, who live in Hungary.

Luckily, the low-cost airline will take me home, so I don’t have to miss out.

There are more than a hundred people on that flight, so it’s not that harmful for the environment if you divide the emissions with the amount of people that fly on it.

I’m sure there are many other people living this way.

There are some amazing opportunities to travel, read (obviously, reading on devices is better for the environment, than on real paper, but I do buy physical books), study, get informed, find your way (Google maps/navigation systems).

If only there were incentives, so that the most environmentally friendly things would become cheaper!

But no, they tend to be more expensive. Organic food, as well as gadgets, cars or houses that are using better energy. I don’t mean books: digital books tend to be cheaper.

And of course, building new houses is harmful for the environment too, especially in Brazil and India, where they burn forests to build houses - however, I think in other countries the forests were gone for way longer and that’s the only reason we don’t pay attention, like in Europe.

We need agricultural land, but I know even that is not natural enough to support endangered species.

Also, I tend to feel that healthier food is better for the environment at the same time.

But I like meat, chocolate, coffee…

If I don’t eat what I like, how do I enjoy my life?

I’m trying to get my thoughts together about what would be best for this planet.

My friend said if all insects die, we all die. But if humans go extinct, it’s actually good for the environment and other species!

So, what can we do to make ourselves useful and not harmful?

Shall we save the world?

Yes, the world is in danger. At least Earth is. And right now, that’s the planet we must live in, as humanity has no other planet to exist on yet.

What can we do?

In all honesty, I’m preaching water… of course I pollute this planet too. I live in a warm house (and don't have renewable energy yet), use a phone which consumes energy, occasionally turn my laptop on, we have a family car and use a bus and fly by airplane quite often…

And when these things were made, they consumed even more energy.

What can I do really? Not much as an individual. Of course, I’m going to heat my house! And no, I still don’t have solar panels installed. What can I, little individual do?

Seriously, not much.

Even what I’d vote on, whatever government I’d like won’t matter.

I believe in what Greta Thunberg says. We have a limited time to stop Earth from burning out.

So, I decided to write this blog again. Maybe it could help.

I believe in a united Earth. I believe together we can stop a catastrophe. Do you believe in it?

It’s not just the EU we need. We need the entire world to join. The EU would be a good starting point, but clearly, British people don’t want it.

What can we do?

Let’s just all live peacefully on this planet. That’s a good starting point.

Was there life on the MOON?

It's less than likely...
But with the Law of Endlessness of course it's possible - as with this law, everything is possible...
Anyway, I authored a book about life on the Moon.

He's so sweet.
He bites us all the time and he sucks hairy clothes.
He must be missing His Mum!
We had Him from friends and held Him in our hands when He was very tiny...

 

I think it's a shame we eat real meat, made of animals. How this relates of Finci? Well, firstly, he's an animal, secondly, he's eating meat all the time.

I read online, in the Guardian (http://www.theguardian.com/science/2012/jun/22/fake-meat-scientific-breakthroughs-research), that they are researching growing meat of microorganisms, plants that have been genetically modified in Oxford, and previously in a different article about the same topic, that a University in Denmark created fake meat which cost about 10 000 pounds.

The Earth-like planet...

As they say: this might be the next destination for humanity. Based on several science-fiction stories, such as Asimov novels, or Avatar, we imagine humanity spreading out all over the Universe. And how good it would be! Only... we need to find a way to go faster than with speed of light... If we go 5x quicker than light to reach Proxima Centaury, the nearest star, which might take a lifetime. What will the passengers eat and breathe? I can imagine planting a rainforest into the spaceship (like in Passenger) and placing something like the Sun on the wall, also, we'd need man-made gravity, or special type of plants (/humans as well).

To reach Kepler 22b, the "other Earth", 600 light years away well... teleport!

Even so, what if there already is life on this planet?...
I certainly don't mean neither the Avatar-like life form, neither the regular Hollywood aliens, who scare the hell out of me. Still, in this case, we would end up occupying their space. Or could evolution have gone another way...? Yet, if there is a species that thinks the way we do, or even has similar technology, they will certainly fight against us, or at least would be cautious as would we.
There will be a space ethics handbook, once we comply with the improvements needed to reach any other planet (the Moon is not even a planet and then we haven't gotten to Mars yet...)

Well, it is not likely there is life on those other planets though. Especially not a life that is technically able to do what we aren't - so I find it unlikely there would be aliens coming to us... Humanity could end up destroying themselves - so could have other "intelligent" life-forms that would be able to travel to space. Hmm I mean, before getting here.

The reason I'm so interested in this topic is that yet if a few scientists get there, we may get answers to more than one question.
